Picking up where the “tour de force” (The Providence Journal) Total Power left off, the next thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series follows the CIA’s top operative as he searches for a high-level mole with the power to rewrite the world order.

Mitch Rapp has worked for a number of presidents over his career, but Anthony Cook is unlike any he’s encountered before. Cunning and autocratic, he feels no loyalty to America’s institutions and is distrustful of the influence Rapp and CIA director Irene Kennedy have in Washington.

Meanwhile, when Kennedy discovers evidence of a mole scouring the Agency’s database for sensitive information on Nicholas Ward, the world’s first trillionaire, she convinces Rapp to take a job protecting him. In doing so, he finds himself walking an impossible tightrope: Keep the man alive, but also use him as bait to uncover a traitor who has seemingly unlimited access to government secrets.

As the attacks on Ward become increasingly dire, Rapp and Kennedy are dragged into a world where the lines between governments, multinational corporations, and the hyper-wealthy fade. An environment in which liberty, nationality, and loyalty are meaningless. Only the pursuit of power remains.

As “one of the best thriller writers on the planet” (The Real Book Spy), Kyle Mills has created another nail-biter that not only echoes the America of today, but also offers a glimpse into its possible future.

Vince Flynn & Kyle Mills - Enemy at the Gates Book Reviews

Just when you think you know what will happen next, this happens...Enemy At The Gates, by Kyle Mills, is the 20th book in the Mitch Rapp series. Kyle writes amazing thrillers, and if that is what you enjoy reading, then this book, and in fact the entire series, is a MUST read for you. I highly recommend you read the books in sequential order, to get the full effect of what is happening. This book picks up six months after Total Power ends and it alludes to what can happen with some of our government agencies, officials and situations, when an incoming President has a different agenda from the previous administration. Enter Nicholas Ward, the world’s first trillionaire and a request he has to find one of his employees who has gone missing, an employee who has been working on a vaccine that will protect the world against any coronavirus that may come our way. Can you imagine what that would do to multinational corporations and the uber wealthy who invest in them. How will they respond to protect their financial futures? Well of course this isn’t all that is going on, there is a mole in the government who is working against the rescue and that too needs to be solved and “addressed”. Our favorite characters, Mitch, Claudia, Irene and Scott just to name a few, are brought in to help rescue Mr. Wards employee. But with this new President and his completely different outlook as to how he feels the country should be run, there are conflicts and differences as to what Mitch and friends can do. If you want to know what happens, and how this affects our future, pick up Enemy At The Gates when it comes out September 14th, 2021. It will be one of the best books you have read this year. #MitchRappIsBack #EnemyAtTheGates.Score: 5/5

These aren’t Vince’s charactersRIP Vince, your legacy deserves better… Warning: this review contains SPOILERS I was a skeptical supporter of Mr. Mills from the beginning. I was an avid reader of Vince Flynn’s books. I admired his edgy wit and ability to weave intricate plots and schemes between intense action sequences. His authenticity was unrivaled. I knew whoever attempted to take over his characters in the Mitch Rapp-verse would have enormous, complicated shoes to fill. I would’ve been skeptical of anyone trying to sustain the story line. I wasn’t too harsh a critic of his other books, but they were definitively not Flynn, not Mitch. But this one is unforgivably off the mark. This book was a travesty. It’s hard not to feel invested in characters I’ve been reading over 15 years. But I wait eagerly every year for the new Mitch Rapp book. I knock it out in a couple days and can’t wait till the next one. This one left me feeling empty and sad for this fictional storyline. How could you? Just…how? For starters, Mitch is an intelligent, methodical warrior. He’s not the soft, worse-for-wear wimp you’ve made him into. He’s a battle hardened, top of the food chain alpha predator. He’s better than Stan Hurley who was stronger in his dying months than Mitch was made to be in this poor effort. He doesn’t care about calories and Cabernet, and he doesn’t stop caring about his country’s safety. He’s not a selfish merc. He’s not an opportunistic part-timer. He’s a cognitive strategic nightmare, the most dangerous figure in the shadows you never want to see, the unyielding, unwavering, unbending judge, jury and tip of the executional spear. Dr. Irene Kennedy is an orchestral, intelligence mastermind. She creates, manufactures and threads plots through complex geopolitical webs at levels the rest of us can’t even begin to imagine. She learned her craft from the best spies her government ever produced. Stansfield, her mentor, was based on a true life intelligence genius. Her character is the superlative of him. She feasts on short-sighted Washington politicians, ego-centric diplomats and jihadist fundamentalist leaders. She is always the smartest person in the room, it doesn’t matter if she’s served tea or not. She does NOT play from behind. Correct me if I’m wrong, but men who have fought together, spilled blood together, bled together and survived more conflict together than the records are permitted to say don’t flip sides on one another when a brand new official comes into office! Are you insane Mr. Mills? Have you ever read a Vince Flynn book? Do you even know who Mike Nash is!? Mitch literally saved his life IN THE WHITE HOUSE! Then gave him credit for saving the day! Made him a national hero!!! And now, 6 months into his term, he betrays his most loyal and trusted mentor? He foolishly buys into the idea Mitch is dead and then guilts himself into betraying him and Kennedy again and again? Really? Are we supposed to believe this? You just desecrated one of Mitch’s most stalwart and reliable allies. Shame on you Kyle, shame on you for destroying Vince’s legacy. This felt like the author wanted to establish ownership of the characters and story and in so doing vandalized a piece of Vince’s estate. There will clearly be a follow up. I hope you’re able to rectify a few miscalculations. But please, give some thought to these characters. Those of us who’ve been reading them a while don’t enjoy seeing their idealism shattered so cheaply..Score: 1/5

Fast paced on the edge of your seat ride.No matter what political views one may have, this is wildly entertaining, and current with the times we live in. All the characters from the series are there. I enjoyed reading this next installment of the Mitch Rapp series, and the transition/conflicts Mitch is working thru while doing what he does best, trying to make the world a little bit safer.
