#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Rick Dockery is the third-string quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. In the AFC Championship game, to the surprise and dismay of virtually everyone, Rick actually gets into the game. With a seventeen-point lead and just minutes to go, Rick provides what is arguably the worst single performance in the history of the NFL. Overnight, he becomes a national laughingstock—and is immediately cut by the Browns and shunned by all other teams.
But all Rick knows is football, and he insists that his agent find a team that needs him. Against enormous odds, Rick finally gets a job—as the starting quarterback for the Mighty Panthers . . . of Parma, Italy. The Parma Panthers desperately want a former NFL player—any former NFL player—at their helm. And now they’ve got Rick, who knows nothing about Parma (not even where it is) and doesn’t speak a word of Italian. To say that Italy—the land of fine wines, extremely small cars, and football americano—holds a few surprises for Rick Dockery would be something of an understatement.

FunPlaying for pizza is a wonderful trip into life in italy. Through the eyes of an American washed-up quarterback, we see how Italians live, eat and enjoy life. We Americans should approach life the same way as our Italian neighbors. Family, friends, food and unbridled love of life. A treat to read..Score: 4/5

Playing for PizzaThis is John Grisham's first sports book and the last one that I read. Though I wasn't sure about the main character in the beginning, it wasn't long before I started to like him. The more he discovered his true self, the more I liked him. This was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed the history of Italy as well as the cuisine. As always, Grisam did a great job with his research..Score: 4/5

A fun change of pace!!This is a great change of pace from John Grisham. I enjoy they way he tells a story and in "playing for pizza" you get just that. Same great story telling but it's all about football and Italy !!!.Score: 5/5
Playing For PizzaThis is one of my favorite books that I have read and I have read a lot... Classics. Non - fiction. Lord of the Rings and Grapes of Wrath and Gone With the Wind are my MOST favorites, but Playing For Pizza ranks right up there.... I love it because I learned a lot about Italy where I was fortunate enough to be able to travel to and perform for the troops with the USO, right after 9/11. I was a comedian and a college football player. My father was a high school coach. I am a combat veteran having been a Lieutenant and an Infantry Platoon Leader with the First of the Eleventh Infantry in Northern I Corps in tithe Republic of Vietnam, which of course no longer exists. I suppose that's one of the reasons this book appeals to me --- being in a leadership position and facing physical danger. I've read some of his other books but this one, though somewhat obscure, is my favorite. Blake Clark.Score: 5/5
