The #1 New York Times bestseller—a thrilling new romance from E L James, author of the phenomenal bestselling Fifty Shades Trilogy.
London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It’s a role he’s not prepared for and one that he struggles to face.
But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past. Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he’s been hiding secrets of his own?
From the heart of London through wild, rural Cornwall to the bleak, forbidding beauty of the Balkans, The Mister is a roller-coaster ride of danger and desire that leaves the reader breathless to the very last page.
The Mister is a 2019 romance novel by E. L. James...
Honestly, I could’ve done without 100 pages of Alessia’s kidnap story. All of that as well as the demands placed by Alessia’s father, I could’ve done without. The book would’ve gotten a full 5 stars from me had all of that been left out. I would’ve preferred a wedding in England. Not that back water country. Not to mention, it ended rather suddenly. Unfinished. I truly hope there is a part two to the story because there’s so much left unresolved like the fate of the two men who were after Alessia, Caroline, Maxim’s mother’s reaction, etc. 35
Not enough interesting story to support the sex 25
This story started a little slow but is was a nice story. 45
What happened to the ending ? Like really it’s has no ending it just stops .... why? 35
This book is great , E.L. James is a great writer and I look forward to reading more of this story . I do hope she puts out Freed soon because I am a big fan of Fifty Shades . 45
It’s horrible ...don’t waste your money ..bad storyline , 25
I’ve always been a E.L.James and I had been looking for a good read so I decided to give this a go. I am so glad I did! I did not put this book dook down until it was finished. The Mister definitely isn’t Fifty Shade, but its still just as good. It was refreshing to see something different from E.L.James and I’m defiantly looking forward/hoping for a sequel! 55
As usual E.L. James disappoints. For all the fuss surrounding her releases, her stories lack substance. There isn’t be 30 pages describing a boring sex scene that reads like a conversation with a prude friend who can’t seem to find the courage use her big girl words and tell you like an adult about a sexual encounter. I found myself skipping pages looking to get back to the story. The character are presented as glamorous, and you expect a story about high society and the complexity of the relationships, but you just get a lot of fluff and blah, blah, blah. Pointless, and that’s being kind. This story makes no impression. 25
I loved it! I will recommend it to all my family and friends and I hope there is a sequel!!! 55
This was good read, the characters were easy to understand and the story continued to build. Just when you think there’s going to be this beautiful ending of how the characters will spend the rest of their lives the book just ends abruptly. It’s really weird, I feel like there was so much more to this story. It feels incomplete. Maybe there’s a second book, one can only guess. 🤷🏽♀️ 45
Reading the other comments I agree it’s very slow at first... I almost thought about putting it down but before I knew it it sped up and started building.. getting interesting and then I loved it. I didn’t even realize I had read the whole book in one day finding I didn’t want to put it down and then it stayed in my head for days! Yes 50 shades was awesome.. I HOWEVER find it unfair to compare one series to a completely different book or possible series.. look at Beatrice Small my other favorite author.. does the same thing...the sign of one of the best writers is that when a series is ‘over’ and another book is wrote completely different story line.. completely different characters however the same author is revealed via it be names used.. context and understanding or just the I overall feeling you get in a book. I thought it was good and I have told others to read it tho I do warn people it’s slow but not to give up on it. Good job! 45
A slap-dash version of Grey. 25
I was expecting another 50. I was definitely disappointed. The plot was not “deep” and there wasn’t enough interaction between the various characters. The ending is abrupt and the reader is left wondering if a sequel is next. Also, being based in another country, I had to look up many of the terms just to understand because of the slang. It was a waste of time and money in my opinion. I’ll give it two stars simply because the plot touched the verge or interesting. I feel like my 9 year old would’ve written a better book. If you’re looking for an easy read that doesn’t require any thought and word porn then it fits the description. 25
I am speechless. This amazing story was so unexpected. Had me at the edge of my seat so many times and sigh of the beautiful love story of Alessia and Maxim. It took me a little bit to get used to reading in 2 different point of views (first and third person) but as I kept reading, it was no issue at all. The plot is heartbreaking yet intense with love and passion. The Mister is a binge-worthy story that will leave you wanting for more. I do recommend going into an open mind when reading this. Specially if you’re thinking it’s going to be like Fifty Shades. Even though it has some similarities, this beautiful, suspenseful, passionate and steamy hot love story, stands alone and proudly. Don’t give up on it too soon! Well done Erika! Another successful and amazing love story! I can’t wait for more ;) (I hope there is! Can’t leave us hanging hehe) 55
Gosh, at first I was enjoying the book. It was nothing special just easy read but by the mid of it I started to feel a bit frustrated at the dialogue, at the narrative, events. by page 800 where Alessia is found by the man she ran away from Albania I just lost it, it’s literally the dumbest book ever. There are unrealistic but you enjoy the possibilities type of stories, this one is way beyond unrealistic. It’s another level of unrealistic. The events are dumb. The characters are without a character. There is no passion. Yeah they have sex but something is missing. There is no life in the book. There is no suspense. It’s just a big blah. I mean I expected another strong story with a strong male, but gosh not this. I mean there is so much to say about this book. Definitely underdeveloped story line. 35
It’s nothing like Fifty Shades, definitely not what I was hoping it to be it’s slow boring and the characters do not share the activities like Christian and Ana did in FSOG. Though I wanted to like it and I honestly do hope in the near future EL James would write another given how successful the Fifty Shades franchise was. I had to put it down :( 15
This is honestly just terrible. It is extremely slow moving for the first 700 pages. I can’t even finish it . The sex scenes are also extemely lack luster and the girl is mousy and doesn’t do anything to help herself 15
I really enjoyed this book I hope there is a sequel. Loved the characters 45
I really enjoyed this book. I love your style of writing, where I get a history lesson, soundtrack and story all in one. The slow burning buildup was torture but I highly recommend it. 45
I enjoyed the audiobook, the narrators did an outstanding work. The story is interesting and will keep you reading. Characters are different and refreshing from what we usually read from the author. I hope to read more of their story soon. 55
