The police can't help you
Former Marine helicopter pilot Jack Morgan runs Private, a renowned investigation company with branches around the globe. It is where you go when you need maximum force and maximum discretion. The secrets of the most influential men and women on the planet come to Jack daily — and his staff of investigators uses the world's most advanced forensic tools to make and break their cases.
The press will destroy you
Jack is already deep into the investigation of a multi-million dollar NFL gambling scandal and the unsolved slayings of 18 schoolgirls when he learns of a horrific murder close to home: his best friend's wife, Jack's former lover, has been killed. It nearly pushes him over the edge. Instead, Jack pushes back and devotes all of Private's resources to tracking down her killer.
Only one place to turn: Private
But Jack doesn't have to play by the rules. As he closes in on the killer and chooses between revenge and justice, Morgan has to navigate a workplace love affair that threatens to blow the roof off his plans. With a plot that moves at death-defying speeds, Private is James Patterson sleekest, most exciting thriller ever.

I don’t understand all the criticism-my only complaint about ‘Private’ is that I want more Jack Morgan! Guess I’m simply happy to have my favorite characters available to read. 55

Very Patterson. Well written. Exciting. A must Read. 55
Thanks. After this I won’t need to read any more dribble by this moron. I can’t believe I read this knowing that the author consulted with Clinton. That was enough of a clue that this no integrity clown was a hack. 15
Staggeringly bad writing, caricatures in lieu of characters, two stupid plots to pad out the book because neither is worth following. My first and last Patterson book - unbelievable that he gets paid for this junk. 15

I would NEVER buy a James Patterson book. He is a terrible writer and I cannot figure out why anyone would ever read his unimaginative formula writing. I can’t figure out how to make it go away! I think it is a joke he is ever on any lists. Cmon people. 15

This book keeps your attention rapt the entire time. 55
Really enjoyable read. Loved the different story lines and following multiple cases along the journey. Highly recommend for those that like crime stories. 55
This book could have been a lot better, but they had to pack in an assortment of side plots in order to fill the pages. The end result is 400 pages of dribble. Disappointing doesn't begin to describe this useless waste of time. 25
Such fun to read Paetro and Patterson. Whose idea was it anyway? Well written and absorbing to the very end. 55
It's a typical Patterson novel and a quick enjoyable read but I'm glad that I was a freebie as I see others who paid for it and ripped it. 35
Great read. I could not wait to turn the page. 45
Good book. Easy to read and engaging. Fairly predictable, but still fun. A good summer read. Readers don't have to invest much thought or emotion in this one; just sit back and enjoy the ride. There's more than a little bit of chauvinism here. It made me frown in annoyance, but I let it pass. I wondered if it's part of the authors personality coming through. Who knows?! Who cares?! It's a fun, slick book. Grab it, grab a towel and head for the beach! 35
A quick read, but I could never sympathize with any of the characters, probably because their personalities were so shallowly portrayed. Several cases being solved simultaneously meant there wasn't enough print devoted to any of them to really develop any tension or drama. The dialogue was as simple as a high school sophomore's first attempt at writing dialogue in a creative writing class. 25
