At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read
My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died. . .
Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive. . . .
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.
Acclaimed author Liane Moriarty has written a gripping, thought-provoking novel about how well it is really possible to know our spouses—and, ultimately, ourselves.
The Husband's Secret is a novel by Liane Moriarty that was first published on 30 July 2013. The novel tells the story of three women, whose lives unexpectedly interconnect after one of them discovers a devastating secret...
You won’t be able to put it down! 55
I couldn’t put this book down. The way the characters all came together in the end was spellbinding. 55
The “twists” weren’t all that surprising, but overall a decent summer read 45
I could not put this book down, grabs you in from the first page on!! 55
The premise of this novel was highly intriguing, unfortunately, for me, it didn't live up to that. This was my first liane Moriarty book, but I'd been drawn to her work because of how delightfully good the HBO adaptation of Big Little Lies was. So, I came in with high expectations. As I mentioned, the premise had a heck of a hook....wife finds a note husband only intended for her to read when he was dead, but he's still very much alive! To my displeasure the plot didn't focus solely on said husband and wife, there was a lot of jumping around to the point where it was like multiple. mini stories within a bigger story. I generally like that--when every mini story has a purpose/impact on the overall plot. Rachel's story was necessary because she is the only living parent of the dead girl. However, Tess's story left me scratching my head. Like, why did I jus spend hours reading about her when she had nothing to do with the overall plot/premise? Generally, I found much of the story to be a bit dull and pointless. The best part of the book was the end. When the author launches into the "what if's" of the book. I reallllly liked that bit and it made me look at the story a bit differently. 35
This book was better than I thought it would be. Very predictable, but still enjoyable. The dialogue was believable and I could buy the way the characters acted and reacted to the events. 35
Loved this book! I enjoy the author’s unique style. For me, her style of unfolding the characters and their stories is fresh and compelling. There were several clever, laugh out loud moments where her use of words was hilarious. I read it because I enjoyed Big Little Lies on HBO, and wanted to see how one of Liane Moriarty’s books would be. I will be buying her others shortly! 55
Slow beginning but I was hooked after chapter 7 or 8. Ending very emotional and really makes you think of the secrets we all keep or are kept from us! 45
This book took me by surprise. It had twists and turns, but was consistent in the storyline. Amazing book, highly recommend it! 35
I saw her books and wanted to read them, my sister watched the big little lies show and then I got addicted! It's so real and emotion from every angle. 55
Guessed the secret pretty early on... But this is still a GREAT book. Make sure you read the epilogue at the end!! 55
Great book. Story is very addicting. Couldn't put down. 55
A good read with intertwined stories. The last chapter was a little too neat a wrap up but all in all quite enjoyable. 55
Was a little slow in the beginning for me but picked up shortly after first chapter..great read! Couldn't out it down. 55
I bought this book expecting a lot more. It's decent but I think it's highly overrated. I think the author was trying too hard to intertwine the storylines and make them all come together in a dramatic way and spent way too much time on boring details, then the last few chapters crams it all together. Disappointed in this purchase- Gillian Flynns books are a million times better. 25
Almost put this book down without finishing, as the beginning was a bit like a soap opera - definitely not my style. Persevered because I was reading it for book club and another member told me she nearly gave up, but ended up liking the book. Glad I stuck with it. Everything changes with the letter, and the story is then well worth finishing. 45
I'm surprised this book is a best seller, it hardly kept my attention. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I gave it two stars because I enjoyed the epilogue. 25
I cant believe that I couldn't put this book down. I read this book in four days and it's a great read. 55
Great story. Surprise ending 55
She does a great job of intertwining the stories of the charters and I really enjoyed when they all came together. The ending was surprising. 45
