This "impossible to put down" #1 New York Times bestseller introduces Amos Decker, a gifted police detective with a perfect memory who must solve a mystery he wishes he could forget: his family's murder (Washington Post).
Amos Decker's life changed forever--twice.
The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to play in the NFL. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field forever, and left him with an improbable side effect--he can forget nothing.
The second time was at home nearly two decades later. Now a police detective, Decker returned from a stakeout one evening and entered a nightmare--his wife, young daughter, and brother-in-law had been murdered.
His family destroyed, their killer's identity as mysterious as the motive behind the crime, and unable to forget a single detail from that horrible night, Decker finds his world collapsing around him. He leaves the police force, loses his home, and winds up on the street, taking piecemeal jobs as a private investigator when he can.
But over a year later, a man turns himself in to the police and confesses to the murders. At the same time a horrific event nearly brings Burlington to its knees, and Decker is called back in to help with this investigation. Decker also seizes his chance to learn what really happened to his family that night. To uncover the stunning truth, he must use his remarkable gifts and confront the burdens that go along with them. He must endure the memories he would much rather forget. And he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

This is the first book I've ever read from Baldacci. I am a fan! This may be the first book I've read every single word of. I'm normally a skimmer. READ IT!!!! 55
What a page turner 45
I am a fan of David Baldacci, I read most everything he writes. This book is, was terrible in all facets, in my opinion. The idea of the lead character with his abilities is intriguing, it just did not work in this setting. 15
This was a great read from a great author. Imagine a personal life changing event that leads to murder and mayhem. Imagine that you now have an eidetic memory and see things in color. Imagine you're a cop with all this. Now you have the setting for a great piece of fiction. This book will keep you hooked from beginning to end. 55
I've read David Baldacci books since the very beginning and I've never been disappointed in a single one. This is one of his best. All the right elements of good story telling and a plot that moves like the wind. 55
One of the BEST EVER books I've read!! David Baldacci is an amazing author and this novel puts him over the top!! 55
This is another book of trick solutions to the authors problem of making it believable. In this case lots of tricks and ridiculous solutions. The protagonists and the antagonists are not very likable. The only redeeming qualities are the discussions on memory and how it can be affected and insight on sexual ambiguity. Neither account is worth wading through a tedious story of a man with no feelings except depressing memories about his grossly murdered family. The reason for their murders was not believable. Picking memory was his hook to do this story but I never cared about the characters or accepted the story as possible. My last book by this author. 25
I could not put down this book!!! 55
I would like to thank David B. for yet another great suspence mystery novel. You hit this one out of the park. 55
This book is awesome. Nuff said! 45
Great book! Well written. Couldn't put in down. Kudos to author. Enjoy it. 55
If you can accept as fact that someone playing professional football can get a severe head concussion and then wake up with an extraordinary memory you will love this book. It is fast paced, keeps you riveted to your seat. I could not put it down from the very first page! Good thing I didn't have to work because I read the whole book in just under two days. 55
Compelling read with strongly developed characters. Evolving action with multi-sided definition and reason provided. It looks live a foundation for an ongoing future series of stories. 45
Plot moved along smoothly. Didn't want to put it down. Very satisfying ending. Bring on the next Decker book! 55
