Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.
More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.
The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

A stand alone thriller ... so Intense and captivating, I consumed the book in three day. Masterfully written. Highly recommend!!! 55
First time reading Karen Slaughter. Took a chance on this one after running out of Eric Jerome Dickey again! (Sigh) Pretty Girls was an exciting, exhilarating and thoroughly enjoyable read. Couldn't put it down. Now I have two favorite authors. 😊 55
First, it is important to know that this book features a lot of graphic violence against women - detailed descriptions of rape and murder. Had I read this book rather than listened to the audiobook I would have definitely chosen to skim those (numerous) sections. Next, while I thought this was a good concept I found the pacing rather slow and labored. Also, the last few chapters seem to be an attempt to wrap up a lot of loose threads. While it was a good concept, I'm not sure it was worth the 20 hour investment. 35
The first third (to half) of this book is really good, and really intriguing. Everything after the 'major plot twist', the bottom falls out. Some of it is just ridiculous, and I found it very hard to believe that anyone would react, or act, in the way these women do toward the end of the novel (mainly, Claire). Because I don't want to reveal the novel's secrets, suffice it to say, it's an interesting, and very dark story, but you will need to suspend with emotional rationality while reading. 35
Got through this one quick, good weekend read! 55
Great book, I like everything written by this author. Book held me captive! 55
Suspenseful and great plot. I love all of Karin's books and this one didn't disappoint. Loved it! 55
The first few chapters are fine. Then the story descends into an inane plot from which it never recovers. Don't waste your time or money 15
I have always looked forward to Karin Slaughter books because of the mystery, the characters, the plots. But this one was too disgusting and predictable. Great story about the love between sisters! 25
The tale of 3 sisters, one who was taken yrs ago and the other two who've grown apart. The tale of how those two and their parents survive with the loss. As a father of 3 girls myself, this story touched my heart. Especially the dads diary. Having said that I think women will enjoy this book more than men as it is mainly centered on the lives of the surviving sisters. This book does drag on about what the characters are thinking and feeling. Having said that, the ending was worth the tedious road to get there. 35
